Winter Vehicle Preparation This Year!

Winter is just around the corner, and for many drivers across the nation, that also means that tough weather conditions for vehicles are coming too! This means icy roads, heavy snowfalls, freezing temperatures, and more! So, with that said here are some tips to keeping your vehicle running in the colder temperatures!

Check Your Battery

It’s difficult for a battery to operate in cold weather, and as such a weak battery that carries over from the summer can turn into a dead battery during the winter. At the start of winter, or even in fall before winter truly begins, we recommend bringing your battery in for a volt test to see if it is still in working order. If not, replacing it is highly recommended.

Coolant Replacement or Checking

Coolant is very important for your vehicle’s health, as it keeps the engine from freezing in colder temperatures, and as such it needs to be carefully watched in winter. You need to make sure there aren’t any leaks in your vehicle’s engine that could cause a coolant drain, and that you have the proper 50/50 ratio of water and coolant mix for your radiators, recommended by mechanics.

Defroster and Climate Control Systems

Another tip is to make sure that your defroster and climate control systems are operating at the best possible efficiency before winter enters full swing. These systems are obviously important, keeping you warm and your windows clear and un-frosted is vital to maintaining comfort and safety during winter, especially in an emergency or dire situation.
